Clear architecture for a pioneering rail section
Stretching 130 kilometers, including approximately 50 kilometers of tunnels and more than 100 bridges, the Koralmbahn is one of Europe’s most significant infrastructure projects. The new line between Styria and Carinthia provides a fast and safe transportation corridor in southern Austria. For the architectural design of several stations and operational buildings, the architecture firm Zechner & Zechner chose Rieder’s durable, low-maintenance facade systems.
The Koralmbahn Service Center was fitted with Rieder elements, totaling over 800 m² of concrete skin panels. As a central service location, the building performs important operational functions. The long-lasting facade solution not only ensures efficient use but also contributes to a uniform architectural appearance along the southern route. The Service Center thus integrates seamlessly into the overall Koralmbahn concept. Photos: Ditz Fejer
