In the design of facades, it is no longer only about visual impact. Rieder’s three-dimensional moulded elements demonstrate how modern design, well-considered functionality and energy efficiency can be brought into harmony.

The award is recognising outstanding achievements in architecture and design. Out of more than 3,900 entries from 57 countries, three projects by Rieder received international recognition – a strong testament to the consistent integration of architectural quality and lived sustainability.

The Tofino Fish Pier was constructed in 1962 at the edge of the picturesque harbour in downtown Tofino and originally served as a shrimp and salmon processing facility. In the following years, the facility underwent several expansions, including the construction of a large ice plant that supplied deep-sea fishing vessels along the west coast of Vancouver Island with ice. Today, the pier stands as one of the last remaining purpose-built wooden ice plant structures on the west coast – a relic of British Columbia's once-dominant maritime industrial heritage.

With the construction of its new company headquarters in the heart of Innsbruck, Tiroler Versicherung is sending out a strong message for forward-thinking, responsible building. The design by architecture firm DIN A4 combines ecological innovation with energy-efficient architecture at a prominent city-centre location, where both aesthetic and functional demands for urban quality are high.

At a time when resource scarcity, climate change and energy efficiency significantly shape architecture, robust, low-maintenance and sustainable materials are increasingly crucial. Rieder’s glassfibre reinforced concrete meets these demands impressively: it is weather- and fire-resistant, long-lasting, just 13 mm thin and flexible. Moreover, the material requires minimal maintenance. Its strength lies not only in technical performance but also in marrying functionality with design freedom. A wide palette of colours, textures and forms enables versatile and bespoke architectural expression.

By acquiring a limited-edition miniature of the artwork A Google Tree (Weinsbergpark Chestnut Bonsai), the Rieder Group demonstrates a strong commitment to cultural engagement and an openness to pioneering digital art forms. The original work – a collaborative project by Certain Measures and Clement Valla – is a life-sized sculpture of a tree, based on a 3D data interpretation from Google Earth. The project critically examines the impact of ubiquitous technologies such as Google Maps on our perception of the natural world.

A new mixed-use district is emerging on the site of the former Neustadt freight station in Bremen, combining historical structures with modern urban planning. Acting as a link between Neustadt and Woltmershausen, the area plays a key role in the city's development. The first completed building, the six-storey "Spurwerk," marks the beginning of this transformation and gives the district a distinctive identity. Westphal Architekten designed a development along Carl-Francke-Straße with a striking edge to the space, creating a strong sense of place. A crucial element is the Spurwerk’s facade, which reflects the architectural concept of layering and dynamism while ensuring a distinctive urban presence through its materiality and design. The facade not only reinforces the character of the building but also symbolises the connection between tradition and innovation – a guiding theme for the entire district. The complex construction required tailored solutions, realised with custom-made glassfibre reinforced concrete formparts from Rieder.

On April 25th, the Detail Facade Congress will take place in Düsseldorf.

How can the construction industry become more resource-efficient, higher-performing and at the same time economically viable? And what role do innovative materials such as timber, carbon, concrete, clay and natural fibres play in this context?

To reduce waste in the production of glassfibre reinforced concrete facade elements and minimise environmental impact, the innovative facade concept scrapcrete was developed in collaboration with the design office Certain Measures. Using data-driven analyses and generative design techniques, production offcuts are deliberately reused. At the core of the concept is a digital software that records leftover materials and develops project-specific design options. These so-called offcuts – leftover pieces from the production of glassfibre reinforced concrete panels – are systematically catalogued, giving them a new life. Instead of being discarded, these materials are repurposed into new applications and enhanced aesthetically.

The exterior cladding of Graz Central Station, installed back in 2013, is an impressive example of long-lasting architecture. More than twelve years after its completion, the facade panels continue to impress with their quality, technical performance, and appearance, despite heavy use at this busy transport hub. Simple cleaning is enough to maintain the excellent condition of the Rieder elements.

“If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” – This quote from Confucius was aptly reflected at the Best Workspaces Award 2025 by Callwey Verlag. Awarded were modern work environments that go beyond functional offices: spaces that inspire, connect, and place people’s wellbeing at the heart. The top 50 projects from German-speaking countries were featured in the book Best Workspaces 2025. Among them: the new Rieder Campus glemm21 in Maishofen, which received one of three special commendations.

In an era where sustainable and healthy building is increasingly becoming the norm, materials with transparently tested environmental and health compatibility are gaining attention. With the IBO quality seal from the Austrian Institute for Healthy and Ecological Building, Rieder’s facade elements carry a recognised certification that fully meets these demands.

These durable concrete elements ensure the building's extended lifecycle while simultaneously modernising the building envelope with an architecturally appealing design.

This is demonstrated by numerous buildings with Rieder facades, such as the Solstice on the Park skyscraper by Studio Gang. The residential tower block in Chicago illustrates how ecology, architectural symbolism, urban integration into the surroundings and material sensuality can work in harmony.

From 23 to 25 March, the BauZ! Vienna Congress for future-oriented construction took place in Vienna. Under the motto “Shaping the existing stock! Everything is already there.” this year’s congress was dedicated to sustainable construction methods and the further development of existing buildings.

To pave the way for a resilient future, Rieder has invested in a sustainable company headquarters in Maishofen. For nearly 20 years, the family business has been internationally successful with the production of glassfibre reinforced concrete facade products.

Located right on the Port of Hamburg, where wind and rain are part of daily life, the prevention centre of the BGW and VBG makes an architectural statement of durability and care. Its monolithic-looking glassfibre reinforced concrete exterior acts like a tailor-made shield against the elements, combining sculptural form with functional precision. Around 17,000 m² of bespoke formparts and flat large-format panels by Rieder in six warm red tones unite engineering and aesthetics into a long-lasting solution suited to the demanding conditions of exposed exposure, light construction and ease of installation.

The glassfibre reinforced concrete elements by Rieder offer an innovative and sustainable solution for the cladding of multi-storey car parks. In a recent design, they demonstrate impressively how aesthetics, functionality and resource conservation can be intelligently combined.

Sustainability is no longer a voluntary add-on – it is now a key driver for business, politics, and society. The pressing questions of our time demand transparent answers and concrete action. How can production become more resource-efficient? How socially responsible is a company? How do we deal with emissions and human rights?

From 13 to 15 March 2025, the “Turn On” architecture festival will once again take place at the ORF RadioKulturhaus in Vienna – now in its 23rd edition. Under the overarching theme “The Opportunity in Crisis”, the festival will explore current challenges and opportunities in architecture. It will focus not only on key construction tasks such as residential building but also on fundamental architectural themes such as space, materiality, and construction.

One City Park in Bradford, England, draws attention with its striking architecture. The building’s curved design and forward-thinking concept create significant interest. For Sheppard Robson Architects, sustainability and the needs of people were paramount in the design. The facade of the complex features 1,700 glassfibre reinforced concrete elements from Rieder, making a distinctive design statement. The sandstone-coloured concrete components serve as both an architectural feature and a key element in creating a sustainable, visionary work environment.

The increased contrast resulting from the different surfaces provides an exciting interplay of colours and a varied range of visual impressions and tactile experiences. This enhances the visibility of the glassfibre reinforced concrete elements.
