ESG Transparency Award: Rieder recognised as a leading company

Sustainability is no longer a voluntary add-on – it is now a key driver for business, politics, and society. The pressing questions of our time demand transparent answers and concrete action. How can production become more resource-efficient? How socially responsible is a company? How do we deal with emissions and human rights?

The ESG Transparency Award, presented by EUPD Research, honours European organisations that not only implement sustainable corporate governance but also communicate it transparently. The award is based on a scientifically grounded transparency standard developed over more than 20 years of research, assessing environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. ESG reports are evaluated through AI-supported analysis processes and classified into three maturity levels: Development Level, Predicate Level, and Excellence Level.

Rieder was recognised with the ESG Transparency Award for its sustainability reporting. The Green Report achieved the Predicate Level – a strong signal that its ecological commitment is making an impact. In addition, Rieder was named a Leading Company for 2024/25. Work is already underway on the next edition of the Green Report, which is scheduled for release in the third quarter of 2025.

Transparency with substance – The Rieder Green Report

In light of the severe impacts of the climate crisis, the construction industry also has a responsibility to define principles for action and present solutions. Rieder takes this responsibility seriously and has carried out a critical self-assessment of its environmental impact. This resulted in the publication of the Green Report – a voluntary initiative based on international standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The report provides a comprehensive analysis of the company’s environmental footprint – from energy use to water and waste management, and social responsibility. For example, the company’s entire electricity needs at the Kolbermoor site have been covered by 100% renewable energy since 2021, reducing emissions by around 30% compared to the previous year.

Rieder is also committed to water efficiency: “The sludge from the cooling and cleaning process is reused in the production of facade panels after dewatering.” A practical example of circular economy, combining ecological and economic benefits.

Sustainability also means: Material choice, diversity & team spirit

Rieder’s facade products are primarily made from mineral raw materials such as sand, cement, water, and textile reinforcements. Through close cooperation with the Institute for Construction and Environment (IBU) and the Institute for Healthy and Ecological Building (IBO), these materials are regularly assessed for their environmental impact.

But sustainability goes beyond environmental metrics. Diversity, equal opportunity, and employee development are integral to the corporate culture. A large-scale employee survey identified and implemented measures to promote collaboration – such as joint workshops across sites and targeted training on sustainability and sales.

Winning the ESG Transparency Award affirms Rieder’s belief: transparency and profitability are not mutually exclusive – they are the foundation for a sustainable economy. The goal is clear: the transformation into a climate-positive company. With a focus on substituting CO₂-intensive materials, improving efficiency, and implementing targeted offsetting measures, Rieder is laying the groundwork for a livable future.
