The iWerkX innovation center in Karlsruhe is dedicated to Industry 4.0, offering space for workshops, production areas, and collaboration zones. The facade design takes inspiration from the form and material language of the original hall, reinterpreting it in a modern way. This approach creates a harmonious link to the past while ensuring both recognizability and a sense of familiarity. Seeking a lightweight material that would evoke the sandstone-red facade of the historic building while meeting the highest fire safety requirements, the architects chose Rieder.
