ESG Transparency Award: Rieder recognized as a leading company

Sustainability is no longer a voluntary extra – it’s now a vital driver for business, politics, and society. The big questions of our time call for transparent answers and concrete action. How can we produce in a more resource-efficient way? How socially responsible is a company? How do we handle emissions and human rights?

The ESG Transparency Award, granted by EUPD Research, recognizes European organizations that not only practice sustainable corporate governance but also communicate it transparently. The award is based on a scientifically validated transparency standard developed through over 20 years of research, evaluating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. ESG reports are assessed using AI-supported analysis and are categorized into three maturity levels: Development Level, Predicate Level, and Excellence Level.

Rieder was honored with the ESG Transparency Award for its sustainability reporting. The Green Report received the Predicate Level – a strong sign that the company’s ecological efforts are having an impact. Rieder was also named a Leading Company for 2024/25. The next edition of the Green Report is already in progress and is expected to be published in Q3 of 2025.

Transparency with purpose – The Rieder Green Report

Given the dramatic effects of the climate crisis, the construction industry has a responsibility to define strategies and offer solutions. Rieder recognizes this responsibility and has undertaken a critical self-assessment of its environmental impact. As a result, the company published the Green Report – a voluntary initiative aligned with international standards like the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The report thoroughly analyzes the company’s environmental footprint – from energy use to water and waste management, as well as its social responsibilities. For instance, since 2021, the Kolbermoor production site has been powered entirely by renewable energy, cutting emissions by about 30% compared to the previous year.

Rieder also prioritizes water efficiency: “The sludge generated during the cooling and cleaning process is reused in the production of facade panels after dewatering.” A smart example of circular economy practices that combine ecological and economic benefits.

Sustainability also means: Material selection, diversity & team culture

Rieder’s facade products are mostly made from mineral raw materials like sand, cement, water, and textile reinforcements. These materials are regularly evaluated for their environmental impact in collaboration with the Institute for Building and the Environment (IBU) and the Institute for Healthy and Ecological Building (IBO).

But sustainability isn’t just about environmental metrics. Diversity, equal opportunity, and employee development are core aspects of the company culture. A large-scale employee survey helped identify and implement actions to enhance collaboration – such as joint workshops between locations and tailored training on sustainability and sales.

Receiving the ESG Transparency Award affirms Rieder’s belief that transparency and profitability go hand in hand – they form the foundation of a sustainable economy. The goal is clear: transforming into a climate-positive company. By focusing on replacing CO₂-intensive materials, streamlining processes, and implementing targeted offset strategies, Rieder is building a future worth living.
