Small-scale Detail with Character

McMaster University expanded its campus with the Peter George Centre for Living and Learning in Hamilton, Canada. The new complex integrates all the key facilities a campus community requires: student residences, dynamic learning spaces, a wellness centre, dining options, and childcare facilities. The building’s design plays with contrasting forms. On one side, the atrium is defined by linearity, while on the other, the stacked, circular lecture halls in the centre create striking accents. The architects from Diamond & Schmitt used öko skin slats as small-scale elements, arranged in a mosaic-like pattern. The small formats allow the elements to follow the curved lines seamlessly.
